Jamal Musiala has pledged his international future to Germany over England. The 17-year-old, who became Bayern Munich’s youngest Champions League goalscorer in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over Lazio, was born in Stuttgart to a German mother and British-Nigerian father, but moved to England with his family as a seven-year-old and has represented both countries at youth level.
Musiala was spotted by Chelsea as a youngster before swapping their academy for Bayern’s two years ago.

He told The Athletic of his decision to play for Germany: “I’ve thought about this question a lot. What is best for my future? Where do I have more chances to pl…
Jürgen Klopp has rejected the hangover theory throughout the search for answers to Liverpool’s inconsistent start but, if a punishing price has been paid for last season’s exertions and the deflating final week, he will hope for a cure at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Napoli away is no one’s idea of a gentle introduction to a Champions League campaign. The Italian club have not lost any of their past eight home games in the competition, are unbeaten this season under Luciano Spalletti, and Liverpool have not won in three visits to the stadium. The past two trips, in the group stage, brought laboured performances and late defeats under Klopp. It provides the perfect setting, therefore, for Liverpool to demonstrate the best of last sea…
Pep Guardiola had talked about the need to suffer before this game. OK then. It’s a deal. This was a gripping, gruelling, sky blue migraine of a football match, one that Manchester City really didn’t deserve to lose, but which somehow always felt like it was slipping from their grasp even during a second half when City seemed to be very slowly, carefully, methodically pulling the legs off this Real Madrid team.
There will be no double-treble now after Madrid’s victory on penalties. But City still played like champions of Europe for long periods. They took Madrid into a horrible place. These are not footballers accustomed chasing and covering, waiting for the blow to fall. At times it felt as though Real spent the last hour of this game…
Don’t feel guilty if you refrained from watching the NFL preseason. We’re sure you had better things to do than watch Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Trey Lance get picked off five times on a Saturday afternoon. Lance had that dismal performance in Dallas’ preseason finale, a 26-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers that dropped the Cowboys to 1-2. Sure, the games didn’t matter, but Dallas’ performance during the preseason certainly didn’t inspire confidence for a team that now has a washed-up Ezekiel Elliott in its backfield and watched star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb miss all of camp due to a contract dispute. But plenty of teams did make headway this preseason, and here are three that may have made the most:Denver BroncosMaybe Denver really does have something special in qu…
Wow, what a frickin’ day. The NBA trade deadline came and passed, LeBron James traded half the players in the league for the other half, and there’s a lot of wreckage to sort through! As is tradition around here, we’re here to help out, with our in depth takes on each trade. Cleveland Cavaliers trade Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, and a protected 2018 first-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Burneko: What!!!! Ley: That’s crazy. Cleveland Cavaliers trade Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose to the Utah Jazz, and Iman Shumpert and a 2020 second-round draft pick to the Sacramento Kings; Jazz trade Rodney Hood to Cleveland, and Joe Johnson to Sacramento; Kings trade George Hill to Cleveland. Burneko: Hwhat!!!! Ley: It’s lit. Cleveland …
Some people are fans of the Tampa Bay Bucs. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Tampa Bay Bucs. This 2015 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Your team: Tampa Bay Bucs Your 2014 record: 2-14. And yet 2-14 doesn’t even begin to hint at how abysmal the Bucs were last season. This is the team that spotted a 6-10 Atlanta team a 56-0 lead after just three quarters, inspiring many stadium dick-pats in the process. They also managed to lose to the Rams after a Mike Evans injury resulted in a 10-second runoff of the clock. That’s life under Lovie Smith for you. You don’t even get the pleasure of seeing your team fuck up at the end of a game, because they fuck up BEFORE that fuckup, and squander the chance to fuck up that fuckup, and then they lose. A…
Japanese nerds have invented baseball-playing robots with talent far exceeding our own Major League all-stars and they don't require Gatorade or HGH. Well, I guess that's it. We had a great ride, humanity, but our time has passed. University of Tokyo professor Masatoshi Ishikawa has created two robots, one pitcher and one batter. The pitch-bot throws 90% of its speedballs in the strike zone and is not subject to pitch count. The bat-bot hits 100% of those strikes, and never swings at anything in the dirt. So a batter who can't strike out vs. a pitcher who will never walk him should make for fast moving, but very entertaining games. Especially if the fielding robots play defense like David Ortiz. Oh, it says here that the batter-bot can't go the opposite field, but th…
The Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic has been fined $25,000 for using the phrase “no homo” while discussing Wendell Carter, Jr.’s length, as NBA writer Sean Highkin reports. “He’s lon—huh, no homo, he’s longer than you expect,” said the Serbian center after last Wednesday’s game, which you can see here:

data-mm-id=”_jw9wkxfb1″>Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers appear headed for a breakup, as the soon-to-be free agent and the only team he's ever known haven't even discussed a new contract. With Rivers in the midst of a tough season and the franchise in the midst of a transition he hasn't embraced, it looks like this marriage is falling apart. Jason La Canfora wrote about Rivers and the Chargers earlier this week. And while there are certainly football reasons for both sides to look elsewhere, there's more to this. The Chargers seem irked that Rivers has never fully embraced the franchise's move to Los Angeles. “Furthermore, Rivers’s lack of interest in promoting the move to Los Angeles — he spends upwards of four hours a day in his car commuting back …
